If you ever wanted to get a tookapic t-shirt or create and buy a tookapic photobook, today might be the perfect day to do it.
It's Black Friday, and you all probably got an email from every single online store you've ever shopped at. And we, at tookapic decided to set up some awesome deals for you guys. Actually - it's just one deal. EVERYTHING is 20% off today.
It's been a while since we've updated our shop. Along with the new design update we decided to put some new t-shirts on sale. Regular t-shirts for photographers and one, very special t-shirt for tookapic supporters.
I'm not going to write an essay about the t-shirt. Just take a look at the new designs (these are all available in both black and white), and for the "special" one scroll all the way down to the end of the post.
After spending more than a month on the redesign we're finally able to show you the new and better tookapic. In this blog post I will try to list all the new features and also - features that are coming to tookapic in near future.
Why did we do it?
So this is a basic question. A question that should be answered before the redesign even started. Because if the new look has no purpose it shouldn't be done.
Wouldn’t it be nice to hang one of your photos in your living room? Framed in a nice, stylish black frame with a classy white passe-partout around it?
Now you can do that. We’ve just rolled out new feature that lets you order quality prints of your photos. We’ve spent last weeks looking for the best printshop to partner up with. And we finally decided to go with the one that prints our photobooks.
When you logged in this afternoon, you probably noticed some major changes in how tookapic looks and works. This is one of the biggest updates we've had since start. Here's what's new.
- It's easier to start your project
- New user levels
- Streak is gone, kind of
- User rankings & Score
- Upload calendar
- Menu changes
It's easier to start your project
One of the most frequent complaint we were getting from new users was "Why can't I start my project with a photo I took 3 weeks ago." - there were a lot of new users who started their projects on tumblr or flickr, and discovered tookapic later. But it was too late for them to move their project to our site, since we only allowed them to start with a photo taken today or the day before.
Shooting for 365 days straight is a great challenge. There are very few people that maintain a certain level of photos or manage to stay in the theme they chose at the beginning.
That's why we're introducing galleries today. This neat little feature lets you group your photos into separate folders. Why is it such a great feature? Let me show you few examples.
Hello and welcome to the brand new tookapic blog. We spent the last few days redoing it from scratch. So what's new?
First of all - the new blog is now fully integrated with the rest of tookapic. What it means is that if you're signed in - you can comment on blog posts. You'll also get a notification everytime someone replies to a comment you posted on our new blog. Just like you get notified about comment replies on photos.
Ok, so you broke your streak. We get it. You’re busy, the upload didn’t work, something came up, you forgot. That’s fine.
But what if you really care about the streak and want to get it to 365 anyway. Well. You can now restart your project. Don’t worry though. All your previously uploaded photos will be safe. We’ll only reset your stats so you can build up your streak from the beginning. You can restart you project on the account settings page.
When we planned the first version of tookapic in June 2014 we had no idea what to expect. We’ve never built a startup. We’ve never ran a social community website.
It all began on October 9th, 2014. That’s when first 60 users got their invites to a closed beta version of tookapic. It didn’t go very well. The main feature – photo uploading – was broken.
How many photos do you take every day? 10? 100? 1,000? How many of them actually matter. How many would you like to save? If you could choose just one photo every day, which one would it be?
Hi, my name is Pawel and I’m the founder of tookapic. Last year I decided to start my own photo a day project. I remember the exact date. It was August 15th 2013. Starting that day I’ve been taking and publishing one photo every day. I have never missed a day.
